Rip Van Hippy is the solo project of Melbourne Musician Geoffrey Hales and joining on two collaborations 'I Couldn't Talk’ & 'Dude Descending a Staircase' is Psy-Harmonics Dj / Label Manager Andrew Till.

Geoffrey also records under the title of ‘Tripitaka’ and has released work on Matsuri Productions(UK) and the Return to the Source 'Sacred Sites’ LP and also collaborates with The Visitors and Fluro Conspiracy on Psy-Harmonics and co-wrote Psyko Disko’s hit single ‘Getaway’

For many years from the mid sixties Geoffrey travelled the world following the hippy trail collecting and learning percussion, living the Moroccan village of Diabet, where Jimmy Hendrix stayed, he learnt to play the dumbek.

From the mid seventies he worked as a session musician in Los Angeles for 12 years, playing on such films as ‘Shogun’ and ‘The Year of the Living Dangerously’ and on records with Herb Alpert and Osamu Kitajima. Toured Japan and Europe many times and played at the Monterey Jazz Festival (81) and the Technics Jazz Festival in Tokyo and Osaka (83).

Since returning back to Australia in the late eighties Geoffrey has worked as a session percussionist for many of the top Australian recording artists, writing advertising jingles for Uncle Toby’s and Mercades Benz and worked on the soundtrack to the new Peter Weir film ‘The Trueman Show’.
